It’s the time of the year again, where the most acclaimed artists the West has to offer try and out-glitz each other. The Grammy’s are unusual in the sense that those on the red carpet are trying to express their creativity, as opposed to traditional ‘beauty’ as seen in other award shows. Here are a few of my favourite looks on this years red carpet:
Both Adele and Selena Gomez have opted for the classic sequinned, full-length gown, however they have both been clever in the details. Adele, sticking to her famous all-black has emphasised her waist by having the minute cut-outs at the shoulders. Selena on the other hand has been trying to change her image away from the Disney Princess towards a mature (read sexy) pop star. As such the low neck, inner boob, and side cut outs are all on brand. Plus, by wearing a different shade which goes beautifully with her skin colouring, she ensures that she stands out for all the right reasons.
Both in soft pink, the romantic aura both Florence Welch and Ellie Goulding emit is a breath of fresh air in the sea of sparkly black dresses with exaggerated leg slits. What I particularly enjoy is the nod to this years high street trends, with Florence’s dress giving a ‘folksy’ vibe, whereas Ellie Goulding’s slip dress is classically 90’s glamour.
I am all about Chrissy’s crystal cape (try saying that after a few shots!), and put with a clean, structured white dress and a tight pony, the whole look has a very Kim K feel about it.
Zendaya’s double breasted jacket makes her look like the boss. The only thing that could make this outfit better was if the bottom of her trousers were tapered as to balance her tiny frame.
And the look of the night…
Lady Gaga’s David Bowie tribute was almost all anyone was talking about at the Grammy’s
(beyond Adele’s off-key performance, Taylor Swift missing a note, Taylor Swift throwing shade at Kayne, and the controversy about whether Taylor Swift should have won Album of the Year at all).
In typical quirky Gaga fashion, she is owning the look, even if it is OTT. Honestly, I think we would all be disappointed if she wasn’t her usual extravagant self.
