The British Academy Film and Television Awards is a eclectic mix of A list movie stars and our favourite actors from the golden age of television. Due to this artistic mix, the outfits tend to be highly dramatic with a high proportion of hits and misses. Here are some of my favourite looks of the 2016 BAFTA’s!
These dresses are the kind of outfits which you simply have to touch.
Gemma Chan is a disco-ball of deliciousness, with a subtle peach tint and beautifully natural looking hair and makeup.
Alicia Vikander full length dress with a contrasting leather and sequin gradient feature is dangerously dramatic, yet she is so cool, she can somehow still make it look effortlessly edgy.
Cate Blanchett’s Alexander McQueen dress is simply a piece of art. The abstract flower garden bodice with the fluffy full-length skirt is what we all think of when we think of red carpet fashion. With Cate’s pulled back hair and crystal earrings, she brings a sense of sophistication to a dress that could have easily been too much.
The above two looks had very different reactions from the press, with Saoirse Ronan’s shoulder-less pretty pattern was lavished in praise, whilst Dree Hemmingway’s fiery vintage-feel dress was more controversial.
Saoirse’s dress seems to match her Irish easy-going charm, with the perfect winged eyeliner to force your eye upwards, away from the busy print.
Dree Hemmingway on the other hand, felt much more traditionally couture, with the lace and sequins mixed with the vampy lip making you feel as if she stepped straight off the catwalk, and onto the red carpet.
The above colour blocked, fishtail, ball gowns are the epitome of classical hollywood glamour. Angela Bassetts fuchsia dress compliments her stunning skin tone and shows off her toned arms, whilst Kate Winslet’s hourglass shape and deliberately undone hair goes perfectly with the geometric neckline.
What were your favourite red carpet looks this year? (:
